Cooks need to work harder for better political engagement - MP

From , 5:03 am on 16 July 2018

An MP from the Cook Islands says parliamentarians there need to work harder to get their communities involved in politics.

The Democrat MP for Mangaia, Tetangi Matapo, was one of dozens of delegates from around the region in Wellington this week for a conference of parliamentary speakers and clerks.

There, Ms Matapo says she learned about how other parliaments are trying to increase their levels of engagement and involvement, particularly with women and youth.

She told Jamie Tahana the Cook Islands parliament has struggled with this.
