Norfolk grappling with Canberra imposed wage hikes

From , 3:04 pm on 23 August 2018

Business operators on Norfolk Island say the territory is still reeling from the imposition of the Australian national wage award system two months ago.

The change pushed up wages dramatically, allowing for penalty rates and other wage features from the mainland that had been unknown on the island.

The vice president of the Norfolk Island Chamber of Commerce, Brett Sanderson, says while some wages earners might be happy, others have lost their jobs or had their hours cut.

Don Wiseman asked him about other effects of the change.
