Niue could go smoke free

From , 5:04 am on 27 August 2018

Niue's parliament has heard calls for the island to go smoke free.

Parliamentarians are debating new anti smoking legislation, which includes plans to make it illegal to buy cigarettes or tobacco if you're under the age of 21.

There could also be changes in the way the product is sold and advertised.

During the debate O'love Jacobsen drew attention to the incongruity of the Government Bond Store selling tobacco products while its fellow agency, the Health Department, is left to cope with smoking's impacts.

MP Terry Coe told Don Wiseman he would like to see a full island-wide ban, but perhaps not yet.
