No plans for Ambae evacuees to return until volcano settled

From , 4:05 pm on 4 October 2018

People evacuated from Vanuatu's volcanic island Ambae in early August, have expressed their concerns about their crops and animals remaining on the island, as well as how they themselves will cope with the oncoming cyclone season living in flimsy shelters with inadequate food.

A state of emergency was recently extended until the end of November while the Manaro volcano remains at alert level 2.

The NDMO's Operations Manager, Peter Korisa, told Jenny Meyer the government has very limited resources and he is appealing to the evacuees for calm and co-operation while the volcanic activity settles.
