The claim by the Papua New Guinea Government that the country's immediate economic future is looking rosy, is being challenged.

In its budget released on Tuesday the PNG Government predicted significant growth and a substantial lift in earnings.

The Treasurer Charles Abel, says the Budget is aimed at ensuring a broad based resilient economy that can withstand the volatility brought by economic and environmental disruption.

But economist Paul Flanagan, who has long followed PNG's economic fortunes, told Don Wiseman the government has taken some big risks in its projections.
