Despite rapid growth, more Pacific health workers needed

The number of Pacific workers in New Zealand's health sector is at record levels but there is still a need for more.

A recent Pacific Medical Association conference acknowledged the significant increase of the country's Pacific workforce with the association now boasting more than 3000 members after starting with only a handful 20 years ago.

As Pacific people in regulated health sector jobs make up only about 2.3 percent of the total workforce, they are still significantly under-represented.
