Bougainville parents told to be more responsible

A prominent member of Bougainville civil society in Papua New Guinea has dressed down parents for not caring properly for their children.

Helen Hakena of the Leitana Women's Development Agency, speaking at an International Children's Day event last week, said many parents dump their responsibilities for their children onto others.

She later told Don Wiseman, Bougainville parents have very large families but they don't plan for the associated costs or prepare for expenses such as school fees.
