One of the breakthroughs at this year's meeting of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission in Hawaii was a move to improve the welfare of ships' crew.
The body, also known as the Tuna Commission, is made up of the distant water fishing nations and the Pacific Island countries in whose waters most of the world's tuna are caught.
Improving conditions for crew was just one of several issues in which the Pacific region felt it made some progress.
Often, these summits are fractious affairs, but the general tenor of this meeting was amicable as Bubba Cook of the World Wide Fund for Nature told Don Wiseman.
