Researcher calls for Pacific awareness on coral reefs

From , 4:00 pm on 4 April 2019

An Australian researcher says while Pacific islanders contribute the least damage to their reefs, there is still a need for public awareness on how they can save their corals from further bleaching.

Rosemary Steinberg, of the University of New South Wales, says the islanders need to work with local corporations and businesses to make their reefs more sustainable.

She says they can then peitition their governments to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

Ms Steinberg tells Christine Rovoi a study carried out on reefs at the Lord Howe Island Marine Park has revealed that 95 percent of its coral is showing signs of extensive bleaching.
