Jonathan Mitchell joined Radio New Zealand in February 2011 as an intern from the New Zealand Broadcasting School in Christchurch.
He has had an interest in news and current affairs from a young age, when he got involved with his school television station at Taradale Intermediate in Hawke's Bay, as well as getting the chance to interview Mike McRoberts from 3 News about his career.
Jonathan has worked in Radio New Zealand's Wellington newsroom in a variety of roles including as a news reporter, presenter of Business and WorldWatch, as well as a producer on Morning Report, Midday Report, Checkpoint and Summer Report.
He loves communicating and speaking with every-day people about their jobs, life and experiences and has been involved in coverage of the Christchurch earthquakes, Rugby World Cup, Football World Cup and Royal Tour.
He has reported live for the ABC in Australia and BBC in Britain about the Malaysia Airlines MH370 plane tragedy and Royal Tour.
He has been RNZ's justice reporter, revealing details about legal aid interest payments, as well as reporting on changes to the Family Court.
In late 2014, Jonathan joined the Radio New Zealand Business team as a presenter and reporter.
