The Cokers Hotel on Manchester Street in Christchurch is going to be demolished. Rudyard Kipling slept there, the 1912 Australasian tennis team who scored a clean sweep against the United States in the Davis Cup held a victory party there. It played an important part in one of Rudyard Kipling's best known works Mrs. Bathurst.  Harry Ricketts is an Associate Professor in the School of English, Film, Theatre and Media Studies at Victoria University. He's written a biography of Rudyard Kipling called The Unforgiving Minute.

Bill Geradts on the Armageddon Expo

The big expo for sci-fi, comic and fantasy fans is going ahead in Christchurch this weekend, although in a truncated version. The Armageddon Expo was originally scheduled In April and was put on hold after the Christchurch head office and home of founder and organizer Bill Geradts suffered extensive damage in the February quake.
