New Brighton Silver Band have been taking carols to the suburbs for over 20 years, but it's the first time they've come to Sage Forest's neighbourhood. The sound of silver and brass brings neighbours out of their homes, lifting spirits and voices. The last time they were on the street together was during the February quakes.

Neighbours reminisce over the days the Salvation Army used to brighten the streets at Christmas, and Sage goes in search of the reasons why they now only play in shopping malls and events.
