Beekeepers in Northland are having a hard time keeping hold of their hives this weather, thanks to the predations of vandals and thieves.The rising price of manuka honey means thieves are now eyeing bees with increasing interest, hundreds of hives have been stolen already this year, with farmers having to shell out thousands of dollars to replace them.
Vandalism too, is on the increase in the region, at least one farmer in Kerikeri has had his hives poisoned as well.
