2:10 The Flying Glove - Ed Leinbach - Seventy years ago next month, a 22 year old Royal Canadian Air Force pilot flying with the RAF 5th Squadron was leading a flight across the mountains in Burma to attack Japanese troops. It's been called the forgotten war, the fight on the Burma border to push the Japanese out of India.
Hurricane pilot, Lloyd "Tommy" Thomas was flight commander that day with Ray McLauchlan of Timaru as his flight Lieutenant in his own Hurricane. They were about to make a strafing run over a Japanese airfield when Thomas was struck by ground fire.
His plane nose dived into the ground as his friend from Timaru watched in horror.
Ray McLauchlan died last December and his family found a flight glove that belonged to Tommy Thomas amoung his possessions. . Now the glove has been returned to the only surviving nephew of the RAF flight Commander Thomas.

He's got two horses and they travel for 5 days traversing the back country or state highways if they need to, for 5 days at a time then stop for a rest. Friends and sometimes strangers along the way take them in.
Pete is raising money for emergency air services trusts along the way, but mostly he's hoping to inspire people to see beyond hard times.
