2:10 The Flying Glove - Ed Leinbach - Seventy years ago next month, a 22 year old Royal Canadian Air Force pilot flying with the RAF 5th Squadron was leading a flight across the mountains in Burma to attack Japanese troops. It's been called the forgotten war, the fight on the Burma border to push  the Japanese out of India.
Hurricane pilot, Lloyd "Tommy" Thomas  was flight commander that day with Ray McLauchlan of Timaru as his flight Lieutenant in his own Hurricane.  They were about to make a strafing run over a Japanese airfield when Thomas was struck by ground fire.
His plane nose dived into the ground as his friend from Timaru watched in horror.
Ray McLauchlan died last December and his family found a flight glove that belonged to Tommy Thomas amoung his possessions. . Now the glove has been returned to the only surviving nephew of the RAF flight Commander Thomas.

2:20 The Horseman - Pete Langford - When Pete Langford came to a crossroads in his life, his marriage had failed .. his business had gone bust, he decided it was time to take a different road.
Actually, Pete decided to travel the length of New Zealand, Bluff to Cape Reigna, 2500 kilometres on horseback. He started in November last year and has made his way to Nelson so far.  He's got two horses and they travel for 5 days traversing the back country or state highways if they need to, for 5 days at a time then stop for a rest.  Friends and sometimes strangers along the way take them in.
Pete is  raising money for emergency air services trusts along the way, but mostly he's hoping to inspire people to see beyond hard times.

4:06 On The Panel today are Rosemary McLeod and Jeremy Elwood - Cyprus' remedy to save itself, you've probably heard about this by now, and our banks will be positioned to snaffle your savings too should the need arise. The Asians Are Coming And Bayley's Is Ready runs the headline in this morning's National Business Review. We talked about the extent to which Chinese house buyers are driving up the febrile Auckland house market yesterday; why is there no hard data, why are there only estimates and opinions? Why aren't humans evolving? Scientists have discovered an urban swallow that in the space of just 3 decades has grown shorter wings for manoeuvrability, so that fewer swallows are clipped by cars, essentially. If evolution can work this quickly, why's it so slow in us, natural selection? The Government's ruled out extending ACC to illness - entirely understandable, how could we afford it, but without that extension where is the fairness?
