2:10 Today, we begin our serialisation of the diaries of Edmund Hillary as he made his way up Mt Everest.
That historic ascent will be celebrated not only here in New Zealand on May 29th, but also in Nepal, where a special marathon is planned alongside other commemorations.
The Tenzing Hillary Marathon is the highest race in the world. Starting at Everest Base Camp,  a mere five thousand, three hundred and sixty four feet above sea level, it runs on through the Himalyas for 42 kilometres to the gateway to the High Himalaya, Namche Bazaar. Chris Dunn is a former Sir Edmund Hilary Scholar from the University of Waikato who has been in training for the marathon for the last few months.

2.20  Mick Rose reads Edmund Hillary's diary entries tracing Hillary's experience, exactly sixty years ago, of climbing Mt Everest. The Diary Entries.

2:30 Reading - Jumping Ship' is based on Glenn Colquhoun's time living in the small community of Te Tii in the Bay of Islands.

4:10 Gary McCormick and Liz Bowen-Clewley are on The Panel today - why aren't there more police? why can't the police control vandalising boy racers? How can couples get away with sustained child neglect? Do you want to work standing up, really, even though it's better for you? More on student cheating and why the NZQA didn't act against it. Angelina Jolie has her breasts removed, but how about New Zealand women equally susceptible? How much money does it take to do what she did? And how concerned should airport security staff be when someone says there are no bombs in my friend's suitcase?
