2:10 The Monument Man - Jill McKenzie - Earlier this week, we talked to the author of a book about the men and women around the world who worked to protect art and other treasures from the destruction of the Second World War.
They were called The Monuments Men. Amoung the 345 people from 13 nations was a New Zealander whose contribution and sacrifice to save cultural artifacts in Southeast Asia has been all but forgotten.
Sir Gilbert Archey was director of the Auckland War Memorial Museum in 1924, but left during the War to work with the British Military Administration in Malaya.  When the war ended, instead of coming home. he stayed to help get the Raffles Museum in Singapore get back on its feet after years of Japanese occupation. Jill McKenzie is Sir Gilbert Archey's daughter and talks with Paul Brennan.

2:20 Early Aviators - Lynda Chanwai-Earle - There's been a lot of coverage lately regarding last year's Carterton ballooning tragedy, with the Civil Aviation Authority now enforcing stricter safety regulations. But what about the pioneering days when ballooning had just been introduced into New Zealand?
The days when people literally flew on a wing and a prayer?
Lynda Chanwai-Earle meets Roly Parsons, our most accomplished aeronaut, the only balloonist to successfully cross the Cook Straight and to traverse Mt Cook, known to those in the industry as a living legend.

2:30 Reading - Part Five of  'Heartland'  by Neil Cross - adapted by Murray Reece from the book published by Simon & Schuster .
