2:10 The French Spider-Man - Alain Robert - Alain Robert's known as the French Spider-Man but there are no special effects involved in what he does. He's climbed some of the world's most dramatic buildings, like the Empire State Building and the Eiffel Tower with nothing but chalk to help his grip. Yesterday he scaled the 40 story Metropolis apartment building in Auckland.

Jack Lanting first came to our attention a few years ago when he raised $20,000 to rescue an aging trekking and logging elephant who he named Kwan Jai. She spent her last years in freedom thanks to Jack, but passed away. He had one last visit with her. Now Jack is working hard on raising money again to save another elephant. He'll be learning how to speak Thai and coming up with ways to raise money to help his beloved elephants in Thailand. 2:30 The Reading - Our book at 2.30 this week tells how strong currents separated diver, Rob Hewitt from the rest of his dive-mates near Kapiti Island.  Although a search was underway by mid-afternoon, it didn't locate him and Rob was left alone, praying and drawing inspiration from the story of Hinemoa and Tutanekai.  He pictures all his friends and family in his memory and calls out their names, asking them to help him find the strength to survive.

For almost 14 years it had been illegal to sell alcohol in the USA.  The law was widely flouted and organised crime had flourished under the policy.

Its rediscovery ten years ago made headlines in the birding world, but it was just a few months ago that it was finally - after much hard work - tracked to its breeding ground.
