2:10 The Grumpy Barber - Rob Parker - In his fifty one years of haircutting... New Plymouth barber Rob Parker has seen fashions come and go. Now the self-described grumpy old man is hanging up his scissors and retiring. Through the years Rob has reamined faithful to the simple art of cutting.. and his barber shop has remained proudly  old-fashioned... with no telephone, no eftpos and no appointment book. But it doesnt seem to have affected his business.

2:20 Kakapo - Karen Arnold - Ask anybody in conservation and they'll tell you it's a very hard job getting Kakapo to breed let alone get the eggs to hatch. The Kakapo is one of our most endangered birds.. there's only 125 of them left .. so any new born chick is a chick worth celebrating.. and none more so than a recent newborn who hatched from a cracked egg held together with tape and PVC glue...This ingenious method has now made headlines around the world... and our Kakapo Recovery Programme is in demand from international zoos who are interested in whether the tape and glue method might work for them in their own bird recovery programmes....

2:30 Reading - Our reading  at the moment is 'We Will Not Cease'  -Archibald Baxter's story of a Conscientious objector a century ago.   Yesterday we heard how Baxter had been arrested and taken from his family's Otago farm to Wellington where he eventually faced a court martial.

3:10  Happy Parenting - Katie Nelson - For years, the debate has raged about whether or not having kids makes us happy. It turns out, according to research at the University of California, there's not much difference on the happiness scale between people who have kids and those who do not. So the team of social psychologists from the Positive Psychology Lab at the University of California turned their attention to another puzzle of parenthood. What's the differences between happy parents and  miserable ones? Katie Nelson is one of the researchers who recently published a study in the Journal Psychological Bulletin that reveals the things that make for happy parenting. Katie Nelson is on the line with us from Riverside California.

3:30 Water Quality Testing - Alison Ballance - On a hot summer's day there's nothing better than a refreshing dip in the river or at the beach. But in many places around New Zealand these days it pays to check the quality of the water before getting wet. During summer, local councils such as Greater Wellington regularly check the quality of bathing water at key coastal and river sites, and Alison Ballance joins a weekly sampling trip to the Hutt River to find out what they're looking for and how they do it.
