2:10 McCahon Kauri - You can see the influence of the Kauri trees in many of McCahon's works.  It's not hard to see why. The studio in which he painted is ringed with the massive natives.  But the Kauri trees at McCahon's cottage, and throughout the Waitakere ranges, are in trouble. Kauri Dieback is a disease which is having a massive impact. It's also not well understood, but could have massive implications for the Kauri in the coming years. Auckland Council's Biosecurity team have teamed up with the Colin McCahon Trust to try and save these trees.

2:20 MIT Graduate - Kirilani Collins is on her way to completing a degree in sports and recreation, for which she gets top marks. Nothing too unusual about that, except she holds down a full time job and full time study means she averages about four hours sleep a night.

Our Changing World: A green invasion is sweeping across the Wakatipu basin. More than 70,000 hectares of the previously tussock-covered land is now affected by the spread of wilding trees such as larch, douglas fir and Pinus contorta. But the Wakatipu Wilding Conifer Group, or WCG, has the trees in its sights. Its slogan: 'We don't hate the trees - we love the scenery'. Alison Ballance heads to Queenstown to find out how chainsaws and herbicide are being used in the war against the tree weeds.
