A New Zealander is in the thick of relief efforts in the Philippines, where Typhoon Hagupit has forced the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people from coastal areas. Aid worker Linda Cruse is from the University of Canterbury. She has been in the country since Typhoon Haiyan struck a year ago. Linda is based in Carles, a small area in the far north east of Iloilo Island.

The research has been done at the University's SPAM lab. In this case SPAM stands for social perception action and motivation. The person behind the research is social psychologist Dr Emily Balcetis.
