1:15 State Care Abuse "Utterly Sickening"
The Disability Rights Commissioner says accounts of abuse in state care are utterly sickening. The report, released today, contains the stories of 17 people who were mistreated by staff in mental health facilities and hospitals between the 1950s and 1990s. Researchers from the Donald Beasley Institute recorded the stories of the patients. And the Human Rights Commission says the report highlights systemic failures and a system that enabled abuse to continue unchecked for years. Disability Rights Commissioner, Paul Gibson, explains.
1:25 What's Really in Synthetic Cannabis?
There have been eight deaths in Auckland related to synthetic cannabis use in just over a month. The latest was a 24-year-old Papakura man who became seriously ill after he was believed to have been smoking synthetic cannabis. He was taken to Middlemore Hospital in an ambulance and died. In each of the seven previous deaths, the person was believed to have used synthetic cannabis recently or was found with the drug on them, police and the chief coroner say. West Side Story is a musical based on Romeo And Juliet, with music by Leonard Berstein and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The story is set in the blue collar Upper West Side of New York City in the mid-1950s.
