1:15 Diet in pregnancy and baby's gut health

We're hearing more about what's going on in our gut - what bacteria lives there and what impacts it.

In babies, new research has found what mums-to-be eat during pregnancy and how they deliver, may have an effect on the composition of the baby's gut microbiome.

This could be used to give dietary tips for pregnant women.

Lead author of the paper, Sara Lundgren from the School of Medicine at Dartmouth, explains.

1:25 Dealing with parental alienation

Parenting is tough, particularly when the parents aren't together anymore, or having problems.

There are now calls for a legal framework in New Zealand to deal with a consequence of those problems - parental alienation.

A University of Otago study has been published, detailing the negative impacts to children that have been alienated by  a parent - from depression to aggression and mistrust.

The reforms suggested by author of the paper, solicitor Lee James, could help the courts in dealing with the issue.

1:35 Sound Archives: Whales in NZ

For the past week Wellingtonians have been whale-hunting - following the movements of a southern right whale which has been frolicking in the harbour, with their cameras. In the past it would have been a different story, as whales were hunted in Cook Strait right up until 1964.

In today's visit to the sound archives of Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision we are going  to listen to recordings that show how our attitudes to whales have changed over the past 100 years.
