There's a prevailing myth that is often brought up in conversations about our history - that Māori killed off the Moriori people in New Zealand. 

This incorrect statement is often repeated even by well known New Zealanders, former National Party leader Don Brash comes to mind. For that reason, many Kiwis, particularly Pākehā, assume it's true. 

Researcher Keri Mills decided to lay out the facts in a piece for The Spinoff, and she explains to us why this idea has stuck around for such a long time.

Vegan's and butchery don't really go hand in hand. Throw in a musician and it starts to sound pretty weird. But Grater Goods has all of that. 

Plugged as the country's first plant based deli, the soon-to-be-opened butchery was founded by Flip Grater, the singer-songwriter from Christchurch.

Flip joins us in studio now to talk why she started this new vegan venture.

2:20 Your Money with Mary Holm: How to get women more interested in investing
 

A recent gathering of a group called Women in Super looked at findings from a Financial Markets Authority survey that showed men tend to know more about investing than women and are more confident at it.

This leads women to be in low-risk investments, which don't grow as much over time.
 
The women discussed what's probably behind those results, including income differences, biases and many women's tendencies to defer to their partners on financial issues. 

They also discussed ways the gap between man and women might be narrowed - such as encouraging women to start out small in riskier investments, and the use of different language and images around investing.

Personal Finance expert Mary Holm talks about how to encourage women more interested in investing.

3:25 Tell me about your thesis

Rosalie Hosking joins us from Japan, where she is doing a post doctoral fellowship.

She's an historian of Japanese mathematics specialising in the mathematical problems placed on wooden tablets and hung in shrines and temples during 1600-1868.

Her thesis is titled Sangaku: A Mathematical, Artistic, Religious, and Diagrammatic Examination, and you can read it here
