Movie Magic

From Jesse Mulligan, 1–4pm, 2:21 pm on 8 July 2014

The magic of the cinema is in Bruce Thompson's blood. The Ohakune local has been involved with movies all his life - his family have run the local picture theatres in the area since the early 1920s. His father began the family tradition by showing silent movies out of the boot of his Studebaker car before buying three movie theatres in Ohakune, Raetihi and Ohakune Junction. The movie theatres have now closed and Bruce Thompson is looking to sell the historic King's Theatre - but in the meantime, he wants to keep the cinema alive by showing ski movies to winter tourists.
