This Way Up: Blind navigation

From Afternoons, 3:34 pm on 27 October 2016

BlindSquare is some navigation technology targeted at blind and visually impaired people. It uses a combination of GPS and Bluetooth to help people find their way around outside and also inside buildings where regular GPS just doesn't work. Wellington's recently become the first place in the world to introduce BlindSquare on a large scale in a city, with more than 200 beacons beaming directions voiced on a user's smartphone. This Way Up's Simon Morton went to see the system at work.
