Crown Apology at Parihaka
The Crown has formally apologised for atrocities during the sacking of the pacifist settlement at Parihaka in Taranaki in 1881. The Parihaka Papakainga Trust has agreed to a reconciliation package that has been signed during a ceremony at the settlement today. The package includes a $9 million settlement and help in establishing a governance structure. Shannon Haunui-Thompson is at Parihaka.
