Flourishing Friendships connects people with and without disabilities at social events in the Auckland area. Co-founder Diane Morris says she kept hearing from clients how hard it was to meet people and decided to take action.
Morris and Sarah Ward, who has also worked in in the disability sector for a long time, launched Flourishing Friendships this February.
At this stage, they're running quarterly events.
The first – a speed dating / friendship meet at the Irish pub in Papakura – was held six weeks ago.
Next up, on the 5th August, is a dance event and pool competition at the Sandringham Bowling Club
Anyone over 18, with or without a disability, can join the network, either for friendship or to meet someone special, Morris says.
