There's been a warning from scientists working in the field of genetic technologies, about its use in conservation. 

They're calling for more controllable tools to avoid the accidental spread of self-propagating gene drive systems - an important issue as New Zealand considers using this kind of technology to eliminate predators.

University of Otago's Professor Neil Gemmell, one of the authors of the article, explains his concern.
