Yesterday New Zealand marked the international Day of Light - which is a United Nations event to celebrate the science of light.
New Zealand in fact has its won committee chair for this day - Professor David Hutchinson from Otago University, who says light is something many of us take for granted, but is vital for many of the technologies we use daily.
"We wouldn't have an internet without light-based technologies - every email we send or communication we have travels around the world in the form of tiny packages of light down optical fibres."
