Critter of the Week: The Nelson Green Gecko

From Afternoons, 3:32 pm on 12 April 2019

Our Critter of the Week is the Nelson Green Gecko - one of our rarest animals, found only in the Nelson area from the south of the Bryant Range, westwards of the main divide, to the Murchison District and north Westland.

DoC's Threatened Species Ambassador Nicola Toki says it is now classified as nationally vulnerable, and although you are not allowed to touch them, if you’re in Nelson for Easter you should try and spot one! They live in open scrubland such as manuka and kanuka forests.
