While rehearsing six to seven hours a day for the TV show Dancing with the Starscelebrity chef Nadia Lim is still breastfeeding her second child

To get through it all, she makes her own cookies packed full of galactologues – substances that promote lactation – found in brewer's yeast, fennel and oats.

Nadia shares with us her recipe for breastfeeding cookies: "These, I promise, will only take 5 minutes to prepare and 15 minutes to cook"

"I feel like I'm not really a natural dancer but I am having a lot of fun [on Dancing with the Stars]" Nadia tells Jesse Mulligan.

She's especially happy that the show has raised awareness for her charity Garden to Table, which runs cooking and gardening programmes in primary schools around the country.

"If we could have every child in New Zealand learn how to grow, cook, harvest, prepare, cook their own delicious, nutritious food, think of what that would do for our country's health in 20 to 30 years' time," she says.

Notes:

  • Brewer's yeast is sometimes called 'unsalted yeast'.
  • Jesse's (currently-breastfeeding) wife Victoria recommends adding dried apricots and dark chocolate chips to these cookies.
  • Drinking fenugreek tea can also support lactation, Nadia says.
