San Francisco 1989 earthquake

From Afternoons, 2:10 pm on 8 September 2010

On October 17th, 1989, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake shook the San Francisco bay area, killing 63 people and causing 10 Billion dollars worth of damage. At 5:06pm, just as thousands of commuters were on motorways and city streets, the earth below them shook for 15 seconds. The Oakland Bay Bridge was damaged, a two tier motorway collapsed, fires errupted throughout the city. Today, just shy of 21 years later, the city has recovered and some say it's even better than before the disaster happened.
