Your Place - Coroglen

From Afternoons, 1:21 pm on 25 November 2010

Today we meet some of the folks at the tiny Coromandel village once known as Gumtown. It's on State Highway 25 on the east coast of the Peninsula, some 18 kilometres south of Whitianga township. Naturally enough, the original name comes from the Kauri Gum that was one of the main products of the land. At it's peak, Gumtown had a butcher, a baker and a bootmaker. There was also the obligatory blacksmiths shop as well as a hotel and at least two boarding houses.
