Your Place - Takapau

From Afternoons, 1:15 pm on 3 March 2011

We take a short detour off state highway 2 in Central Hawkes Bay. We are only about a kilometre off the main drag and just 20 kilometres west of the nearest main town, Waipukurau. This was once the centre of a large flax milling industry and the town takes its name from the flax that grew on the expansive plain that surrounds it. It's Maori meaning translates literally as"Mat"or"Carpet".
