Your Place - Otane in Central Hawkes Bay

From Afternoons, 1:20 pm on 19 May 2011

Otane got its start in 1884 when sections in the area were auctioned off in Napier, each fetching around £70 at the time. Within a year the railway was operating, and this became an important terminus. Today Otane is the centre of a large farming community and has a population of just a little over 500.
