Mana Waka

From Afternoons, 2:20 pm on 15 July 2011

Between 1937 and 1940, cinematographer Jim Manly followed builders as they worked to create wakas for the 1940 centennial commemorations of the Treaty of Waitangi. The film was stored, unedited, on the Turangawaewae Marae, for about 50 years. In the 1990's Director Mereta Mita used the footage for a feature length documentary called Mana Waka, which will screen at the New Zealand International Film Festival.
