Final grants from legacy

From Afternoons, 2:27 pm on 17 August 2011

Thomas Bates was a renowned woodturner and furniture maker in the late 1800s and early 1900s. He made furniture for many prominent families in New Zealand from his shop in Danniverke. He died in 1926 and his widow three years later. They left their estate to the Dannevirke Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. After nearly 90 years, the last grants from that estate have been handed out to help children in the district.
