The annual Vaka Eiva - or Waka Festival - has started in Rarotonga. Hundreds of paddlers from throughout the world are competing in races in traditional Polynesian canoes, including a 42-kilometre marathon race. Among the competitors is Sonny Wharekura of Tauranga.
