Topics - it was a great day for a stroll on the beach in many parts of the country yesterday. The weather was mostly fine and there was the added attraction of a king tide occurring on both the east and west coasts. Today we learnt that cycling is around 35 times safer than rugby. This is the conclusion of some Auckland University researchers who compared accident claims and participation rates in several activities. We pay out megabucks to fix people as the result of sports injuries they can expect. We pay out nothing to fix people for illness they cannot expect and which often they can't be blamed for either, in the sense that they haven't made lifestyle choices that predispose them to such illnesses.
