As far as music was concerned back then, you'd be hard placed to beat Michael Jackson. In sport, Chris Lewis in tennis and Lance Cairns in cricket had international attention; At home in New Zealand, school girl Gloria Kong escaped kidnappers, and David Bowie's Serious Moolight Tour shows drew huge crowds. Tour promoter Hugh Lynn relates some of his memories from that time. The winner of Miss Universe that year - Lorraine Downes - also recalls some of the events of 1983.
