AT THE MOVIES #722                   BACK TO THE FUTURE

Simon Morris reviews three films that look to the past in one way or another, including tributes to classic silent comedies, to the Eighties and the films of Steven Spielberg, and to the dawn of time – and football.

Ready Player One is set in a future that reveres the Popular Culture of the Eighties.  Directed by Steven Spielberg, it’s a treasure hunt that takes place in Virtual Reality.

Lost in Paris is an independent comedy from writer-directors Fiona Gordon and Dominique Abel that remembers the classic comedies of Chaplin, Keaton and Jacques Tati.

And from beloved animation studio Aardman (Wallace and Grommit) comes Early man, in which Stone Age Dug challenges a Bronze Age tyrant to a winner-take-all football match.  Featuring the voices of Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston and Maisie Williams.
