AT THE MOVIES #751                   A STANDARD 2018 SELECTION

In the penultimate show this year,  Simon Morris introduces a typical trio of films – one blockbuster, one small film aimed at an older audience, and one award-winning art film – from Mexico this time.

Mortal engines from Weta is based on a series of “Steampunk” fantasy novels, featuring giant cities on wheels.  Produced by Sir Peter Jackson, directed by Christian Rivers.

Rose is an independent American film about a retired cop – Cybill Shepherd – on a road trip through New Mexico in a motorized wheelchair.  Co-stars James Brolin and Pam Grier.

And winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, Roma is a hot favourite to do well at the upcoming Oscars.  Directed by Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity, Children of Men).
