From Checkpoint, 6:18 pm on 10 August 2018

A New Zealander living in Indonesia has given a first hand account of the utter devastation in Lombok following last Sunday's 6.9 magnitude quake which killed 259 and has left tens of thousands of people homeless.

Jon Braithwaite runs the Broken Compass Hostel and Bar on Gili Trawangan Island.

He was celebrating a wedding reception with family and friends when the quake struck and has now travelled to Lombok where he is staying with his pregnant wife and her family in a makeshift camp.

Jon toured the village of Gangga with his camera to capture the destruction and to highlight the desperate need for international help.
