Auckland Council halts church rates rise

Angry church leaders have confronted Auckland councillors about a change that meant some were suddenly charged tens of thousands of dollars in rates. And their words worked. After four hours the churches received apologies and the council has decided to put off any rates rises until next year, while it reviews the policy.
