Government spying ‘an affront to democracy’

An inquiry has found Southern Response used Thompson and Clark to spy on quake claimants, but it wasn't the only government organisation using the private investigators. The private investigation firm was also found to be reporting on Greenpeace, the Green Party, the Mana Movement and some iwi groups, which it treated as security threats - State Services Commissioner Peter Hughes says that's not acceptable.
