A Maori lawyer is urging iwi which are still to finalise treaty claims to participate in hui about State owned Enterprise legislation - because it may affect their settlements; An elder of Ngai Te Rangi iwi doubts whether the tribe will lodge an appeal against the Port of Tauranga being given permission to dredge the harbour, to provide access for bigger container ships; The Ngai Tahu leader says the few descendants who haven't enrolled onto the iwi's whakapapa database, is because like him, they prefer to affiliate with the tribe they're mainly involved with; The Rotorua based Maori Research Institute says preparations are almost complete, for the first ever delegation of Maori from New Zealand to attend an international conference for elders of ancient traditions and cultures being held in India.
