Te Kohanga Reo Trust board today opened an urgent Waitangi Tribunal hearing, calling for a law change, for the Maori pre-schools not to be run by the Ministry of Education; The iwi and some residents around Kaipara Harbour have placed a rahui or a traditional ban over the harbour in protest against 200 Crest Energy tidal turbines going ahead; Members of nine Ngati Kahungunu hapu in Wairarapa and Southern Hawke's Bay have given formal approval to their Treaty of Waitangi claims, which have taken 16 years to prepare, being negotiated with the Crown.
