Council chief resigns over crisis and gets large payout

The head of the Christchurch City Council is being paid a golden handshake of just under 270 thousand dollars, an amount an employment lawyer says is surprisingly large. Tony Marryatt resigned this morning, saying he accepted final responsibility for the council losing its building consents accreditation.
