Danielle Power is a newbee when it comes to horse breeding but she has quickly found her hooves.

"My daughter is also horse crazy so we're learning as we go!" she says.

Danielle started Accolade Stud three years ago on a 4.5 hectare lifestyle block near Rangiora in North Canterbury.

The stud is based around her Irish born gypsy cob stallion Ballydangan Bo-Shambu, otherwise know as Bo.

She imported the14-hand palomino from Australia at great expense last year. "We put him on the mortgage." Unsurprisingly Danielle is hoping the demand for his progeny will reap financial rewards.

Bo has been a busy boy this year.

He has served several outside mares for a stud fee and two of Daneille's three mares are expecting the first foals by him in December.
