3:00 Classic Concert: The Monterey International Pop Festival

Two years before the legendary Woodstock Festival, the Monterey Pop Festival in June 1967 pioneered the three day multi bill out door event. Over 200,000 attended what has been referred to as the beginning of the Summer of Love, when the hippie ethos of music, peace and love was in full flower and the best pop performers of the day donated their fees to the Monterey International Pop Foundation, a non-profit charitable and educational organization. The festival is also known for launching the careers of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Otis Redding to a young white middleclass American audience (Razor & Tie)
